ECOVENTURE FIELD STUDY CENTRE “The Green light - Adhou’ al akhdhar - "الضوء الاخضر”
Posted 2nd July, 2010
With approval of Phase 2 for the Ecoventure Field Study Centre completed, and with most plans going ahead, it is now possible to give you a sneak preview of why we are so excited about the future of our residential centre. Below is a brief snapshot of the site we will be developing over the next year. Development of certain areas will start on the 1st of July, and some are still a work in progress.
Development of the student’s dormitories (Starting date 1st July 2010):
Students will be housed in converted stables, with separate male and female sections. Students will sleep on bunk beds placed in designated partitions. Each partition will have lockable storage facilities for each student. At the end of each of the male and female dormitories will be sufficient shower and toilet facilities with easy access points.

Development of teacher’s accommodation and staff room (Starting date 1st July 2010):
With the view to allow teachers the opportunity to relax and enjoy their time at our centre, we are developing areas that will give teachers a ‘home away from home.’ Teachers will be allocated comfortable and fully furnished male and female bedrooms, located within the dormitory block. Teachers will also have access to a staff common room, where they can relax on comfortable chairs and make themselves a cup of coffee.

Laboratory and Canteen (Starting date 1st July 2010):
The field study centre will provide students with the opportunity to conduct scientific investigations in a fully equipped scientific laboratory. Equipment available will include microscopes, dissection kits and the necessary apparatus to complete chemical tests. Adjacent to the laboratory is the canteen, where students will be served nutritious meals during their stay. The kitchen is on site, and the tables will be underneath a shaded barasti awning.

Wadi Study Area (Starting date 1st July 2010):
With the services and advice of wadi expert, Emma Smart, we will be developing a self-sustaining wadi system in the grounds of the Ecoventure Centre. This will give us access to another unique study site, where students can conduct studies on different aspects of the system. Once established, we hope that this system will attract many organisms not normally found in this area.

Cultural Village and campfire area (Work in progress):
We intend to develop the following paddock into a cultural village, where students will be able to learn about the local culture, arts and crafts and architecture in the United Arab Emirates. In the centre of the paddock will be the campfire area, where students can sit each night and be involved in a range of activities around the fire.

Nursery (Starting date 1st July 2010):
We are planning to establish a nursery of indigenous desert plants in the Ecoventure Residential Centre. The paddock below is where this nursery will be located. Students will be involved in the planting, maintenance and care of the plants in the nursery.

Sports facilities:
The students will have access to a dedicated beach football and volleyball pitch within the Ecoventure Residential Centre. They will have time each day to let off steam and play some games.

Tented Camping Area:
Safari tents and mattresses will be erected within this area, and students will have the option to camp in the confines of the Ecoventure Residential Centre. There is easy access, by a flight of stairs, up to toilet and shower facilities in the club house behind the laboratory.

Animal Farm:
The Ecoventure Residential Centre intends to have a fully functional animal farm that includes chickens and goats. This gives students the opportunity to learn about the care of these animals, and also to be involved in egg collection or the milking of goats during their visits.

Outdoor Adventure Camps News
Posted 1st June, 2010
The Adventure Camps team have been busy securing a second desert camp. The new camp, already in existence, has been named the Oasis Camp on account of the beautiful pool feature that is central to the camp. The Oasis Camp is the perfect compliment to the already existing Ecoventure Wilderness Camp. The traditional barasti cabin accommodation, air conditioned facilities, high and low ropes and swimming pool offers a different experience to the more rugged appeal of the Wilderness Camp!
